Don’t Let Them See Your Dirty Laundry

December 18, 2018 By Melinda Eitzen

What if there was a way to divorce where all your dirty laundry was not aired out publicly? What if there was a way to divorce where we could honor what we had, but move on to more fulfilling lives. What if there was a way to divorce that shielded the children? What if there was a way to divorce that allowed for a creative settlement that addressed both of our goals and concerns? What if there was a way to divorce that allowed us to behave with dignity and respect while divorcing? There is a way- the Collaborative Way.

The Texas Family Code has a statute that allows for a collaborative divorce instead of a litigated divorce.

The Collaborative Divorce Process

The Collaborative process is a noncourt more amicable process. It is designed to help people with serious disagreements resolve those disagreements in a private confidential setting. It includes a child specialist to bring the voice of the children to the parents.

It includes a financial neutral to help with budgeting and forward forecasting. It uses nontraditional negotiation techniques to increase the size of the pie and to truly understand and attempt to meet as many of both client’s concerns and goals.

It also involves a neutral mental health professional to help us to deal with the normal emotion that gets in the way of the deal like anger, sadness and fear and to keep us on track. The neutral mental health professional also helps the divorcing couple to put together a parenting plan. The parenting plan includes the parenting time for each parent including holiday time. The parenting time also addresses decision making regarding the children.

It can even include special concerns such as what about how the parents might introduce future love interest to the children. To find out more go to www.collaborativedivorcetexas.com.

Open, Honest and Civil

The process is done in a civil way and was very professionally handled. I think it is beneficial to be face to face with all parties.
